Daak Vaak

Founded in 2017 by friends Onaiza Drabu and Prachi Jha, Daak Vaak began as a newsletter on South Asian literature, art, culture and history — sent to exactly 20 people, some willing, some lovingly coerced. The name "Daak" is the Hindi word for mail, a nod to the founders' shared love of letter-writing and the belief that stories deserve to travel slowly and deliberately. What started as a labour of love has grown into one of South Asia's most beloved literary communities, with over 150,000 followers, collaborations with institutions like Penguin, MUBI and Good Earth, and coverage in Al Jazeera, The Hindu and Scroll. At the heart of it all is a gift shop born from the same ethos: postcards and curiosities that carry forgotten poems, cultural histories and literary gems into your hands, designed to be kept, gifted or sent. Daak Vaak is for anyone who believes that South Asian culture deserves to be celebrated not just studied.
